"Pater et Filius"
This one is an easy one! "Pater et Filius" is Latin and means 'father
and son'. Do you know the word 'paternal'? It means of the father. So
your paternal grandfather is your father's father. A few people even
call their father Pater. We also have the word 'filial' which means of
the son or daughter. If you are filial it means you are a good son or
daughter.
This phrase is actually only part of one of two sentances. The first
reads "In n爅ine Patris, et F骴ii, et Sp鬳itus Sancti. Amen." (In the
name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit). The second should
read: "Bened駥at vos omnipotens Deus, Pater et Filius et spiritus
sanctus. Amen." This means "May almighty God bless you, the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen." You guessed right. This is holy
language. Deus means God. The Father also means God. And the Son means
Jesus Christ. And I think you know of the Holy Sprit.
Latin was originally used in Italy and so was used by the Holy Roman
Church. Today it's called the Roman Catholic Church and is headed by the
Pope, who lives in the Vatican in the centre of Rome. And they still use
Latin, even though Latin is no longer spoken by anyone.
These two sentences are at the beginning and the ending of the Holy Mass
or Communion. This is where bread is broken and eaten by believers of
Christianity and wine is drunk. The bread represents the body of Christ
and the wine his blood and is in memory of his death upon the cross and
his resurrection. So it's especially important at Easter. I'm pretty
sure you must do this in your church, too. Only it's not in Latin and
maybe they say different things too. (By the way, in the Catholic church
they don't use bread, it's some kind of dry cracker!)

SEINFELD異動!
如果我們演JERRY跟GEORGE
總共還需要三名角色分別是:WOMAN(三句)、GUY(一句)、ELAINE(一句)
先找找看小又跟瑋瑋吧...看她們可不可以
那個只有一句話的男人應該可以當場請人演XD
Jerry: George, the phone's free.
George: Alleluia.
(as George reaches for the phone, a woman snatches it and starts dialing)
George: Excuse me, I was waiting here.
Woman at phone: Where? I didn't see you.
George: I've been standing here for the last ten minutes!
Woman: Well I won't be long.
George: That's not the point. The point is I was here first.
Woman: Well if you were here first, you'd be holding the phone.
George (yelling at her): You know, we're living in a society! We're supposed
to act in a civilized way.
(he goes over to Jerry and Elaine)
George: Does she care? No. Does anyone ever display the slightest sensitivity
over the problems of a fellow individual? No. No. A resounding no!
(guy on phone approaches George)
Guy: Hey, sorry I took so long.
George: Oh that's OK, really, don't worry about it.
Elaine: How do people fast? Did Ghandi get this crazy? I'm gonna walk around,
see what dishes look good.
Jerry: I told my uncle I had a stomach ache tonight. You think he bought that?
George: Yeah, well, he probably bought it.
Jerry: So what happened with Tatiana?
George: I shouldn't even tell you this.
Jerry: Come on...
George: Well, after dinner last week, she invites me back to her apartment.
Jerry: I'm with you.
George: Well, it's this little place with this little bathroom. It's like
right there, you know, it's not even down a little hall or off in an alcove.
You understand? There's no... buffer zone. So, we start to fool around, and
it's the first time, and it's early in the going. And I begin to perceive this
impending... intestinal requirement, whose needs are going to surpass by great
lengths anything in the sexual realm. So I know I'm gonna have to stop. And as
this is happening I'm thinking, even if I can somehow manage to momentarily...
extricate myself from the proceedings and relieve this unstoppable force, I know
that that bathroom is not gonna provide me with the privacy that I know I'm
going to need...
Jerry: This could only happen to you.
George: So I finally stop and say, "Tatiana, I hope you don't take this the
wrong way, but I think it would be best if I left".
Jerry: You said this to her after.
George: No. During.
Jerry: Oh, boy.
George: Yeah.
Jerry: Wow! So...?
George: So I'm dressing and she's staring up at me, struggling to compute this
unprecedented turn of events. I don't know what to say to reassure this woman,
and worst of all, I don't have the time to say it. The only excuse she might
possibly have accepted is if I told her I am in reality Batman, and I'm very
sorry, I just saw the Bat-Signal. It took me 3 days of phone calls to get her
to agree to see me again. Now she's waiting for me to call her, and she's
(gestures towards woman on phone) still on the phone.

cardinal:
(Catholicism)
[Wikipedia]
A cardinal is a senior ecclesiastical official in the Roman Catholic Church, ranking just below the Pope and appointed by him as a member of the College of Cardinals during a consistory. The duties of the cardinals are to attend the meetings of the Sacred College and to make themselves available individually if the Pope desires their counsel. Most cardinals have additional duties either leading many of the church's dioceses and archdioceses or running the Roman Curia.
Upon a pope's death, the college runs the church during the sede vacante; those under 80 years old are also responsible for electing the next Pope.
Pope Sixtus V limited the number of cardinals to 70 (six cardinal bishops, 50 cardinal priests, 14 cardinal deacons). In 1975, Pope Paul VI created the age limit on electors and raised the limit to 120 cardinal electors. But the numerical limitations have been frequently disregarded in order to make the College of Cardinals a more representative body. Pope John Paul II elevated an additional 31 cardinals in a consistory on October 21, 2003, bringing the number of cardinals at that time to 194. As of John Paul II's death, 117 of the then-current 183 cardinals were young enough to be electors.
The term "cardinal" derives from the Latin cardo, or hinge, which in canon law referred to the cleric's incardination into the local church of Rome. Nowadays, the term also suggests metaphorically the fulcrum-like leadership role they play in the church at large. Because of the scarlet color of their vestments, cardinals are the namesakes for the bird of the same name.
Abstinence:
[Wikipedia]
Abstinence is a voluntary forbearance from indulging a desire or appetite for certain bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure. Most frequently, the term refers to abstention from sexual intercourse, alcohol, or food. The practice can arise from religious prohibitions or practical considerations.
Abstinence has diverse forms. In its oldest sense it is sexual, as in the practice of continence, chastity, and celibacy. Commonly it refers to a temporary or partial abstinence from food, as in fasting. Because the regimen is intended to be a conscious act, freely chosen to enhance life, abstinence is sometimes distinguished from the psychological mechanism of repression. The latter is an unconscious state, having unhealthy consequences. Freud termed the channelling of sexual energies into other more culturally or socially acceptable activities "sublimation".
foofproof:
1.Designed so as to be impervious to human incompetence, error, or misuse: a foolproof detonator; a foolproof safety lock.
2.Effective; infallible: a foolproof scheme.
3.Foolproof (2003) is a Canadian heist thriller/comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and David Suchet (who also acted alongside eachother in The In-Laws (2003). It focuses on a group of three young people who play a game they call 'Foolproof', planning heists in great detail (but not actually acting on their plans). Suchet's character is an infamous thief who blackmails them into planning and carrying out a heist for him.
bishop:
A bishop is an ordained member of the Christian clergy who, in certain Christian churches, holds a position of authority.
undermine:
1.To weaken by wearing away a base or foundation: Water has undermined the stone foundations.
2.To weaken, injure, or impair, often by degrees or imperceptibly; sap: Late hours can undermine one's health.
3.To dig a mine or tunnel beneath.
intercourse:
1.Dealings or communications between persons or groups.
2.Sexual intercourse.
imminent:
About to occur; impending: in imminent danger.
papacy:
Papacy Roman Catholic Church. The system of church government headed by the pope.
Catholic:
Roman Catholic Church
※
Use the Internet to find out a. about how many Catholics there are worldwide;
The Roman Catholic Church, or Catholic Church, is the largest Christian Church in the world. According to the Statistical Yearbook of the Church[1], the Church's worldwide recorded membership at the end of 2003 was 1,085,557,000, over half of the estimate at that time of the total number of Christians. It is led by the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, currently His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
※
b. which ten countries have the largest numbers of Roman Catholics.
The number of Catholics in the world continues to increase, particularly in Africa and Asia, although the religion has lost much of its political influence in the "First World" (e.g. Europe, USA). The increase between 1978 and 2000 was 288 million. Protestant evangelicals have succeeded in making inroads into parts of Latin America, but remain a small percentage of the population. In most industrialized countries, church attendance has decreased since the 19th century, though it remains higher than that of other "mainline" Churches.
According to canon law, members are those who have been baptized in, or have been received into, the Catholic Church on making a profession of faith. They remain members, even if unfaithful to their obligations or even if excommunicated, unless they formally renounce membership by, for instance, joining another religion or denomination. However, in countries where a question on religion is included in the census, the number given in the Statistical Yearbook of the Church (see above) is that of the census returns; thus, for instance, in the case of New Zealand, where 27.5% of the population classified themselves in the 2001 census as being of no religion, the number of canonical Catholics is doubtless higher than the number appearing in the Statistical Yearbook of the Church.

Use the Internet to find out a. about how many Catholics there are worldwide;
It is led by the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, currently His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

b. which ten countries have the largest numbers of Roman Catholics.
